Synopsis from Goodreads:
"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

What was that noise? That was my heart breaking unmistakably a million times. The second book of the series was definitely better than the first one, the characters are built up better this time. Once we start caring about anyone, we all know the drill!

Chaol was developed in this book really well making one care for him gravely. His circumstances of what happened to him in the past is mentioned much more clearly this time.
Dorian wasn't in the book as much as I was hoping because I adore him way too much!

Seriously, this book is the mother of plot twists. It also had Celaena become an actual assassin unlike the previous book where she was too soft-hearted and in a basic love triangle which was quite bothersome.

There were instances in the novel where you think she is not even a human because she becomes that much into being an assassin. The deaths that occur are described a little more vividly and this could make one squirm (be warned).

I would love to scream about certain things that happened in this book but I don't want to give off any spoilers. So just read it, watch your life being changed (while you sit and rock back and forth, crying)!!!

I don't know who to trust anymore! Why am I asking you guys to read this book when it is obviously going to rip your heart? Because I would love to watch you endure this book!
